Juncus Kraussii

Juncus Kraussii is an Australian native plant with leaves that are tough, straw-shaped and spine-tipped.

It’s not one you’ll want to fall on top of, but it does make an excellent salt-tolerant hardy border plant in damp areas. There aren’t many plants that will tolerate a soggy bottom but Kraussii is tough stuff.

Though he may be, he also throws up red to purple-brown flowers between October and January. His flowers cluster at the tips making a really nice architectural feature.

This is one for a damp garden or around the edges of a pond. It looks stunning mass planted and creates a top-notch environment for wildlife. If you’re trying to prevent erosion control Juncus Kraussii can sort that for you no problem.

• What to use me for: Wildlife loves me because I’m native to Australia. I also make a great bedding plant and suit the edge of a pond. Erosion control issues or a coastal garden you say? I’m your guy.

• I grow to: I’ll reach 120cm in height and spread over 40cms.

• Where to place me: I like damp, moist soils so in the shade is best unless I’m around a pond with consistently wet feet.

• How far to space me:  I need 40cms of elbow room

• Soil Conditions: I tolerate most types of soil if they are damp. I don’t like being thirsty.
